The unit is a modified small evaporator available for purchase from a place called Hotrodaire in Fl.

The real solution, I believe, is to place a simple evaporator coil in the air stream in front of the existing heater/air box - you know, in that funny long cavity in the body. Then you would have the option of dehumidfiying defrost air as well as using the existing air distribution system to push cooled air not only through the dash vents, but in a Westie out the side vents along the roofline as well.
