Ron,

yes, you have a point. I do on occasion (ahem) travel with fridge on propane, works better than 12V.

But, and you didn't mention this scary or not aspect, when you go to fill up with gas and the fridge is lit....

oooh I have the image of the man lighting the cigarette at the gas station in Hitchcock's "The Birds".

I know your response is tongue-in-cheek, but (at the risk of stating the obvious) there is of course a difference. While fuel flow is necessary, propane flow is not. Why double your risk by having two flammable agents flowing through your Vanagon, when the fridge could simply be battery-powered while driving? What is the benefit that makes this additional risk worthwhile?
