I recently bought the Hankook in 195R14D. They work, go straight, seem pretty responsive. They are tall (26.4" or something like that). They respond to highway grooves and road crowning more than the Michelin LTX I have run on Vanagons for the last 15 years. That means they seem to track to the right of their own accord, but they are just following the crown (slope) of the road. I like them. I'd probably buy them again, from Five Points Tire in Redwood City: http://www.fivepointstire.com/index.htm

And, of course, you can't find 'em on the Hankook site (at least, I couldn't). But you can find them here: http://www.silverline4x4.com/4x4tyres/RadialRA08.htm# and click on "RA08 Dimension Data"

I bought these after agonizing for months (years?) about upgrading to 15" or 16" wheels, the GoWesty HydroEdge packages...all of it. Fortunately, I realized I'm still a putt putt kinda Westy Automatic driver. All I want is durability, stability and safety. These Hankooks have it all. My only further worry is brakes...I hate my spongy, pedal bottoming-out crappy brakes. I'm betting I can fix that without the 15"-wheel-required upgrade to SA or Audi brakes.

And that's my story. Good luck with yours :-)

Hello everyone!

I stopped by Firestone the other day to have my back 2 tires changed, and these are the brands/models they suggested. I'd love some recommendations if you have any, or alternatives in the same price range (and a location in the SF Bay Area in CA to get it done!):

Bridgestone 603V BL 185R14 D - $112ea Hankook 185R14 D - $87ea Cooper 185R14 D - $85ea Sumitomo 185R14 - $90ea

Please reply to me directly!

Thanks,

Philippe
