Yes, the reference to the ash tray vent is an indicator that he was referring so some setup other than VintageAir's. Their deluxe set-up uses an evaporator that also includes all the baffling for both heating and cooling and fits in the dash.

problems with it after installation which I now consider solved. The
problems involved not using enough oil with the refrigerant and the failure
of the control valve. I have since converted to R134, had the valve
replaced, had the right amount of oil added, and all is well. The front
vent is a great addition to the little cool air that makes it up from the
back vents. The original compressor (Subaru) is still plugging along and
keeping me cool. I did get phone advice from Vintage Air and I would advise
checking with them since they helped diagnose my problems and seemed very
knowledgeable.
