Hi all,

My '83 ac Westy has had several bouts of not wanting to start recently. It turns and turns but no starting. The first time I let it sit and returned several hours later and it started right up. The next time on a whim I tried roll starting it on a not very steep incline and it started. I have done this two more times now (with several "normal" starts in the interim). It doesn't make any sense to me because AFAIK there is nothing mechanically different taking place in the engine using a bump start vs. a starter start. But it has been the crucial difference on these three occassions. This is my first FI VW, so maybe it's something to do with that? I'd like to try to figure it out myself or rather with the list's help, but i'll take it in to "the man" if I can't.

Thanks, Tom H in Seattle

Bass content: Swapped an Ibanez acoustic/electric six string for an Ibanez electric bass in the back of my Westy the other day. I'm a guitar player but want to accompany myself on Garageband recordings!
