As I recall, after removing the 10mm nut, the spring and the base of the mirror fell right off. Perhaps yours is stuck. Try the other mirror to see if it will come apart. Clint: I am trying your suggestion here. I removed mirror, then removed the 10 mm nut and the (worthless) spring. There is now a cup-shapped washer on the bolt that is keeping the base attached to the mirror. This cup-shapped washer does not want to come off, so that I can separate the mirror and base, to get your suggested garden hose washer in there. Is the cup-shapped washer just rusted in place on mine?? did yours come off easily??? Any further expanation would be appreciated. Thanks.
