Is anyone interested in a cold weather gathering at Ouray, Colorado during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend (the third week in January). I always go to to the Ouray Ice Climbing festival - it's a party for the entire weekend - lots of good people, ice climbing in the Ouray Ice Park, world famous mountaineering people and extreme ice climbers (mens' and womens' competitions) lots of beer (provided by New Belgium Brewery), lots of outdoor gear is auctioned off to help support the park, etc. (A couple of years ago I got a $440 pair of ice axes for $100). Me and my GF will be there, camping in the national forest. It can get a bit cold that weekend (but then there wouldn't be any ice to climb if it didn't). There are some great hot springs in the area - municipal hot springs in town, several hotels have their own hot springs, and just north of Ouray there are the famous Orvis hot springs (clothing optional). Nothin' like goin' skinny dippin' when it's 5 below outside! Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode... Warren L. 88 Westy "Billy Bones" p.s. We can't just limit it to Vanagons - half my friends either drive Bays or Splitties (or, as I call them, early Vanagon prototypes). |
