The temp signal sender for the gauge in the dash is a one wire setup with a simple female connector that slips over a little round sender. The Temp II sender that goes to the ECU to let it know when the engine is warmed up, etc., has a Bosch plug on connector on it and has two wires. On the 1.9 they are close together on the left hand side somewhat near and slightly below the distributor.

Are you looking at the right one? I am not sure from your description.

The temp needle starts cold and move toward hot. Where the gauge is depends on the instrument cluster. It is different if you have a tach.

Hope this helps.

Sam
