The best way to check the AFM is to put a 9 v battery across the + and ground terminals and watch the voltage on the slider terminal with a voltmeter. The voltage should change smoothly from 0 to 9v ( or vice-versa) as you move the flap thru its full motion. The Bentley test is crude and inconclusive.

Of course if the slider develops a resonant vibration at a high steady engine speed, that's another whole can of worms.
