But of course, what possible reason would there be not to open it up to all buses?

Was someone who lives right near there going to go over and scout? Could you perhaps talk to the park about the logistics of getting a bunch of spaces together, and let us know? If they only take cash, then presumably no money is needed in advance to reserve spots anyway.
