I have to drop my Diesel tank(was 80 gas) this fall for a trip from NY to FL and back.. think that the spare tank in the shed w/swiss cheese top would be a good candidate for the added capacity.. I'll also be adding a 12gal tank to replace the clamshell lets see if I can get 30 gals of range on this lil TD (25-27mpg) Dan Whos not afraid to beat, bend brake and weld modify a fuel tank
Lloyd McClelland <lsm6@NORTHCOAST.COM> Subject: Re: re-shaping vanagon gas tank for more capacity I was thinking about the same thing a year ago when I noticed some epoxy on the OG 57 Beetle tank bottom, ground it off and found it was like Swiss cheese . I took it to a local radiator shop, they dipped the tank, cut out the bad section welded up with new metal then coated the inside. I then painted it . Then I started thinking about the Vanagon tank...notice thinking/not doing :) Chris- so let us know what you find.. how much additional fuel it would hold and how much $$$ |
