Volks, I was doing some research in the archives in relation to a thread on the WetWesties list and came across some rather recent posts in which a few people stated the the AFM related Vanagon Syndrome only occurred in Digifant Fuel Injection System. The Syndrome effects both Digijets and Digifants. The following information was found in the archives of the Vanagon.com list or on its web site over 5 years ago. "The first VW Service Bulletin, # 92-01, 2/29/92, applied only to Digifant, but was soon superseded by Service Bulletin 92-02, issued 4/30/92, to include all Digijet AND Digifant models. No aircools were involved, as they had the non-digital (analog) L-Jetronic fuel injection system." After failing to find the actual service bulletins on my computer, I did some further searching on the Internet, I found this at the Syncro.org site: "Technical Bulletin Group: 24 Number: 92-02 Date: April 30, 1992 Subject: Vanagon Driveability Complaints Model(s): All Water Cooled Engine Vanagons SUPERCEDES TECHNICAL BULLETIN 24-92-01 (February 29, 1992) CONDITION: After driving for an extended period of time at a constant speed, the vehicle may, on occasion, experience a deterioration of performance which may be accompanied by a hesitation or surging. In many cases, after turning off the engine and subsequent re-start or without having taken any action, the symptoms disappear." The whole bulletin and the first one, along with many others, are also there. http://syncro.org/bulletins.htm#023 The problem comes from erratic signals sent from the AFM to the ECU and the AFM's of the two systems are virtually identical in basic structure. Hope this provides some clarity if anyone thought it was just the Digifant.
