Steve.

I assume you are referring to the plastic fasteners holding the mbf door panels to the doorframe. If they are the original VW fasteners there is no way to recycle them. They wont come out. When I was renewing my trim I used a paint scrapper, sharpened the blade to a razor edge and simply broke the heads off. I used only gentle taps to the handle of the scraper with the knocktomitor.

When replacing the trim panels I used Ford trim fasteners the screw type ones to fasten them. I believe VW fasteners are NLA. Now if I want to remove the trim to attack wiring or something else I simply remove the plastic screw and pull the panel off.

Hi volks,

I'm in need of instructions on removing the steering transfer gear (which according to Bentley "cannot be repaired") and the master clutch cylinder. This is a 90 Vanagon GL. I have the Bentley manual, which could be a lot more helpful than it is! but that's all I have.

Also - and this is going to sound pretty daft - I cannot get the little black plastic buttons off the inside panel on the rear door. I am assuming that behind these little black buttons are screws that fasten the panel, which is that fiberboard stuff covered with a thin sheet of plastic, also black, but when I try slipping a knife or other blade under the edge of the button, I am unable to pop it off. The buttons are very thin and flexible, so they flex, but do not come off.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Steve
