Jake -- you must have missed the memo.   On many VWs, you can toggle
the DRLs by pulling up gently on the emergency brake.   Not enough to
engage the brakes, but just enough to trigger the switch which cuts
the DRLs.

A bonus feature of this well-engineered system is that if you pull up
too hard at freeway speed, your lights will go dark, and your vehicle
will do a 360.   This will REALLY get the other driver's attention.
