I did the same thing in a somewhat easier manner on my '77 Westy, by simply
using a hose clamp on the line to restrict the flow. This allowed me to
"dial it in" by loosening/tightening until I found the flow rate that I
liked. I was concerned that this might shorten the lifespan of the pump or
burn it out. However the pump was still working fine when I sold the camper
a few years later. (YMMV of course.)
