Subject: Cross country fuel costs / Gotta love IOWA rest stops
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

After a relaxing trip through Labrador and Newfoundland I just did a power drive from NJ to Seattle in our packed 86 Syncro with stock 2.1 engine. (2,940 miles in 80 hours, including sleep/eat/etc).

If you have to drive cross country on Interstates, go through Iowa. All their rest stops have FREE Wi-fi and no signs that prohibit overnight "parking".

-- I started saving receipts in E. Stroudsburg, PA (after visiting Hans at Vanaru.com)

From E. Stroudsburg, PA to Seatac, WA, Sept 18 thru 21, 2006

Total miles 2847 Total fuel gallons 158.64

average gas price per gallon: $2.452 cheapest gas: Walcott, IA $2.179 most expensive gas: Hardin, MT $2.699

Average MPG 17.95 Total fuel dollars $387.23 cost per mile: 13.6 cents/mile
