well, let's see here now ... specs say 220 cubic feet of storage area. add maybe another 100 cubic feet of people area (or were you planning on trying to drive with all these nuts in the vanagon?)

so 320 cubic feet of nut storage area.

now we have to decide which KIND of nut we want. and whether shelled or unshelled (makes a BIG difference!). peanuts ... unshelled (but washed and removed of their roots and leafs). figure an average unshelled peanut to take up about one cubic inch. that means 320x12x12x12 = 552,960 peanuts. figure 553,000 cause them peanut farmers are always slipping you some scrawny nuts at the bottoms of the bags.

shelled. now it gets worse. figure likely 16 shelled peanuts per cubic inch. which is 8,847,360 nuts.

and them teeniney dinky little 'cocktail' peanuts, well, they're likely to be twice as many as normal peanuts!

cashews!! only for them Expensive Vanagons. :) figure one cashew is about as big as two peanuts. or 4,423,680 nuts.

brasil nuts! at least four peanuts to one brasil nut ... or 2,211,840 nuts.\

lug nuts!! hmmm. i figure one lug nut is pretty close to a half a cubic inch. so 1,105,920 lug nuts.

coconuts!!! hot damn, now we're talking!! :) one average sized coconut should be maybe five inches in diameter, so about eight per cubic foot. again, them coconut farmers are sneaking so figure some small ones get in there, and we'll say ten coconuts per cubic foot or ... 3200 cocunts.

but vanagon nuts? slovenly dribble-faced furry-butt vanagon nuts? probably only about a dozen. and that would be REALLY pushing it.

;)

unca joel it IS Fryedaye somewheres, ain't it??
