Subject: 87 Westy oil light and buzzer random- HELP!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252"

I recently purchased an 87 Westfalia automatic with 158000 miles. Lastweekend I took a 200+ mile trip in southern California without any problems.Today I headed north on a 1200 mile trip to Canada and the oil light/buzzerstarted to alarm about 30 minutes after I left home. I pulled over andchecked the oil level and it was a bit low so I added some. I then drove forabout another hour and it alarmed again. I checked the oil and it was stillat full. Water temp remains about 1/3 level during highway driving. After afew hour stop the alarm started again. This time I just kept driving andafter about an hour the alarm stopped. I think I have a bad pressure senderbut I’m not sure. Tomorrow (Saturday) I will be driving north on Highway 99from Bakersfield to Sacramento. Questions: 1: Where is the oil pressure sender on the engine? What color is the wire?Is it hard to replace?2: Where can I get a new sender on Saturday along Highway 99 betweenBakersfield and Sacramento?3: Are there any repair shops open that would install it for me?4: There is a grey/yellow wire that is just ‘loose’ behind the fuse panel.Could this have anything to do with the problem?5: I added a small bottle of STP oil treatment before the trip. Could thishave caused any problems? Sorry I have not had time to search the archives as my mobile email is a bitslow. Answers to ANY or all of the above questions would be greatly appreciated. Ihave constant email access so any replies at any time would help me. Regards, Ryan Haagensen
