Maybe someone on the list can get me started in the right direction. I repaired a bad weld in my exhaust yesterday. My idle then dropped 100 RPM's and today about every other time I start the engine it will idle low and and try to die when I depress the accelerator. When I then stop and restart the engine it starts and runs fine. I have this problem when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Noteworthy are that the oxygen sensor, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor button are all new and have been working with no problems. Timing was also set recently at a local shop since I'm unsure as to how to set it without timing marks other than those on the pulley or the VW tool mentioned in Bentley. Emissions testing isn't required in my area so I'm unsure of the CO content. I was planning to go through the entire testing of the fuel and emissions components as outlined in Bentley since the idle was a little high and fluccuated occasionally in addition to some slight rough running conditions when cold. I do suspect that the power steering pressure sensor is bad since the idle drops slightly when turning the wheel. I'm just getting ready to jump into the testing of all the possible components with my meter and any help that the list members can offer would be greatly appreciated.
