Where has it lived? Not all 250K chassis are equal... My Cali Vgon ('87 GL)
has about 350K on the frame and it's quite solid- but it was very well
maintained by the original owner.
Perhaps you can get a knowledgeable list member near the van to go give it a
look... of course you always have the risk that they might buy it
themselves... : )
It doesn't seem (to me, anyway) that BB value has much to do with what these
vans go for on the market. Also, that's a pretty popular/desirable version
of the Vgon for many people.
That van would be a prime candidate for an engine conversion. If it was well
maintained you've probably got a ways to go on the engine that's in there
(apparently the first one went 110K farther than that one has, right?). If
it's a tight as you think it is you could convert it after you get over
paying for it and get another good vehicle lifetime out of it.
As for shipping, there are many listees that have done it and hopefully will
guide you well on that- however I think I'd be inclined to go get it if I
could.
Good luck,
Robert

Hey all-
I'm looking at a '90 GL (non-Westy) and want to run this by y'all to see if
anyone has any feedback or advice.
Here are the details:
Weekender Package
Cruise control
Power heated mirrors, windows, door locks
Front disk brakes
Compass, temperature and elevation computer
Absolutely everything works
70,000 miles on second engine
- Rebuilt engine was one of three remaining VW manufactured "long blocks¨
247,000 total miles on van
All maintenance completed and up to date, receipts for service and oil
changes are available
Recent brake and rotor replacement
Recent major tune-up
Original paint
Never been in an accident
EXTRAS
Tow package
Several lights and misc, replacement parts included
I've seen pics and this brick is absolutely straight. Not a scratch on it,
inside or out. It has been loved, for sure.
Here's my hurdle, and I guess I'm looking for some reassurance on this.
Even with the new (not rebuilt) engine (which is no spring chicken itself),
247,000 is a TON of miles - especially for a '90.
He's asking $5,000. I blue booked it (at 70k mi) at $3,355. Blue book on
247k was about $1,000 less.
I would have to ship roughly 2,000 miles.
Thoughts?
