We are mass-media luddites. We refuse to pay for more than basic
cable (and that, only because we're in a condo complex and aren't
allowed to run antenna wires in from the roof).
But when we "camp", we media-splurge. We favor places that have
electrical hookup. But in extremis, we rely on Simon's solar panel to
save us from an evening of media indulgence.
We most-often travel with an Axion AXN7080 8" dual-voltage TV/DVD
player**. An interesting note is that it uses less power than our car
radio! Alternately, we use one of our laptop computers to play DVDs.
We have Netflix, so have a plethora of movies on DVD to watch while
travelling, since we almost never watch them while at home.
(While camping we occasionally search for local TV channels, but
generally find the expected Nothing Worth Watching.)
**If we were looking to replace it, we consider that it would be nice
to have a wide-screen display for the DVDs.
