Zoltan,

Since the green tach wire connects to the coil, I would disconnect the tach
from the coil at the coil and see if it goes away.  That would indicate a
short in the tach wire.  If an 88 is similar to earlier models, there is a
two position connector bringing the green wires (tach and coil input) to the
tach.  There are two matching tabs on the coil.  You should be able to just
move it over to one side so the tach wire is not connected, but the coil
signal input is.  Of course, it may have nothing at all to do at with this
-- tach rpms will go down when engine stalls...
But it's a very simple check to eliminate one possibility.

Hi guys,
A friend of mine has written me a frantic email.
His car cuts out and I can't tell him what it can cause it.
He says, the tachometer drops, the engine cuts out, than back again.  So, he
can't drive it and it drives him nuts.
Any advice?
Somehow, when it comes to electronics, I am baffled.
