Hi Tom,

My parents are "mostly retired", and when they travel they sometimes like to veg out with a movie in the van, particularly in evenings when the weather is poor.

Canadian TV mostly *IS* American TV, and vice-versa. But even when we come up with a new idea (ie, Street Legal) it appears on US TV a couple years later (as LA Law).

There's some Canadian Content worth watching, but it often gets buried under the onslaught of imports. The US networks can afford to spend $1M/episode to make a prime-time show since they've got a 300M- strong audience to sell it to. But when your audience is only one- tenth as large it's difficult to produce a product quite as slick, particularly when the US networks will gladly sell that product to our bradcasters for 1/10th of what it cost them to create it.

My favorite recent Canadian series is Regenesis. I went to high school with one of the actors in it, and it's unabashedly filmed in Toronto: http://www.regenesistv.com/indexframeset.html

It's had two seasons on top-tier cable, and recently found its way to on-air broadcast.

Happy Trails,
