Easiest way to change an outer boot is un bolt the top ball joint and then you can work the CV out from behind. There is a circlip that will need to be opened to get the joint off the axle. Messy job. If you ordered the boot kit aftermarket. Go to the dealer and order the nut. The kits have a cheap, thin nut. Amazingly, the dealer kits get the correct nut. The nut is available separately. Can't be done on ramps, you need a good jack and jack stands as the wheel will have to be removed and at least the top ball joint and tie rod separated.

Boot kit is on the way. Wondering what is involved? (the archive is down...)

Bentley shows 39.17 "front final drive axle flange oil seals, replacing." Is that where I should be looking? It involves more than I am up for, or have the tools to do (pressing tie rod end out).

I thought this might be a simple procedure that I could do with the van on ramps. Can someone kindly enlighten me?
