The V is the timing mark for setting the timing and should line up with the case split, however it seems that your timing is set 5 degrees more, which is the only way mine will run. Mine won't even run with the V on the split. The distributor mark is lined up as well to it....go figure. The U shaped one is for TDC and is 5 degrees off from the V.
