A year or 2 ago when I saw a thread on these fans I recalled we had an old battery operated air fresher in a drawer around here. Takes one D cell battery and a (expensive) scent cartridge. Okay, ignore the cartridge and the thing is just a little fan inside a vented plastic box (about 2x1.5x5).

Nothing to lose so I tried it and I *think* it helps keep everything more evenly chilled. That D cell battery lasts a really long time too. I lay it on the second shelf and just make sure nothing is blocking the vents that face up.
