Well I guess what i find is it not so much a difference in the paint quality they use its in the paint prep -well err they may not quote a multi- stage paint/clear kote just a single stage paint no clear kote -wont flow the paint under the rubber, -dont remove as much hardware (eg they will mask the bumpers & window trim) -inferior sanding detail so some of the paint may not bit in areas close to the trim where it is masked off -the areas on the frame behind doors, hatch wont get paint or just over spray ...

maybe you should try the roller paint that I did on my van $40 can of tremclad/mineral sprits http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0604D&L=vanagon&P=R10365 I am soooo happy with this I camp off beaten track & each trip i usually have a few tree branch/rock scratches now I just mix up a little tremclad + mineral sprits & roll it out .. I only did the lower portions of the van below the upper contour lines but i am very happy how it came out it for sure its never will be show room and only near the end did i start to get the hang of managing the orange peel effect, but when you have done your 6 th coat & the wet sand at 2000 grit you cant tell from 5', I guess I gotta post pics now ... a bit l8
