Neil this is not uncomon you lost your oil pump prime the oil pump needs oil in it to push oil threw the filter To get around this unscrew the filter so it does not touch the block and place an oil pan under the engine. have someone crank the engine until the oil comes out. next screw thr filter tight and crank the engine the light should go right out
