The steering wheel needs to be unlocked when towing 4-down. I "defeated" the steering lock on the Camper so I don't need to leave the keys in it when I tow it behind the Wanderlodge. The Camper (or any toad) is self-steering when towed 4-down. Some of the tow dollys will have a pivoting cradle for the front tires of the vehicle and tell you to lock the steering straight ahead.. I have the Roadmaster brackets on the front of the Camper, they are stout and I would recommend them if wanting to tow a Vanagon 4-down for any type of distance. They also make a brush guard that fits on the brackets after you remove the tow bar - I'll be picking one up later this month and will try to post some photos of it.
