I had one on my 79 loaf for a while but reducing the AN 10 fittings
was a hassle in cramped quarters.  It's in a box somewhere in the
shop.  In my 2nd gen.system, I didn't worry about whether the oil
went to the filter first or not as the thermo was cold, the oil
automatically went to through the filter until it hit 165F and then
full flowed at185F.  I used a speed shop block off plate for the
filter mount on the engine and then ran  teflon hoses to an external
in line filter that then went to the cooler.  It had an amot
thermostat in line and a bypass hose for the cold times.  I had a
shop modify a Harrison AC evaporator by welding on two aluminum 1/2
NPT female ends on it and from there I rigged the bypass and had a
fortune in the Aeroquip hose.  The type four  rebuild lasted over
100k, so it was worth it.
