Subject: mystery 89 backfiring solved?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

To all,

Thanks for all your insight!

Members of this list have suggested that i should drive it without the 02 sensor attached. It runs ok for a little while but if I remember right, it does the same thing after a minute or so. It runs ok with the sensor grounded, of course due to enriching it, but that is not the answer either. The issue must be with one of the sensors or the wiring... however all check out fine when testing them.

I have suspected the o2 sensor, but I am not sure how often the wire or shielding goes bad. Has anyone had this go bad??? One reply said one has to use the shielded wire because of the low voltage signal and possible interference. Makes total sense!

Wonder if that shielded wire is readily available, my local NAPA guy did not know where to get it. Living in the sticks makes it hard to find special stuff...

So, the next question is, where can i get about 1+ feet of the shielded wire? I see in the wiring diagram that it meets ground in the middle somewhere.

Any ideas. I just want to get this van running again!

Thanks to all!!!

Markus
