I just, yesterday, installed a SONY CDX GT400 receiver in my '87 Westy, all
the bells and whistles plus Satellite Radio Ready. Was on sale at Canadian
Tire for $169. Fit like a glove. No problems installing this radio in the
Vanagon whatsoever. Also got new SONY XS-W4021 speakers that were on sale for
$49.95 a pair. They fit in the door panels nicely. Since they come without
a grille cover, I took OEM Vanagon speakers that screw into the door panel
with four screws, not the style that has the big plastic screw ring in back,
then cut the speaker part from the grille part with a rotary cut off wheel and
used those grilles to cover the new speakers. Works like a charm, no window
winder interference and looks stock except for the red colour of the speaker
behind the grille and the sound is way better ! I will do the same for the
rear speakers once my local Canadian Tire get another set of the SONY
speakers in for me.
