Max,

You are absolutely correct. I replaced the expansion (pressureized) tank
this weekend and was able to pry the patch from the old tank. It was not
easy and required a flat blade  under the patch and some twisting force
applied. The patch popped off but left the epoxy that had worked into the
crack in place.

I'll keep this product in my repair kit anyway because of it's ease of use
and durability. Thanks for pointing out it's limitations.
