Mostly unrelated, but FWIW -- I too have a VW fog light switch in that
slot but use mine to manually control the radiator fan.  It's a
2-position switch so I can turn the fan on either low or high.  Why?
Sometimes you see that 12,000' mountain right in front of you and know
that things are going to get hot enough to require the fan.  If you
anticipate the demand your engine can stay cooler longer as you climb.
