And if you do strip the threads and have to use an insert, use the "KD" style insert (3/4" Reach size) and the appropriate tap. I think Sears carries these now that most "old time" parts stores are a thing of the past.

Even better are the slightly beefier inserts and tap(s) form Timesert (I luv mine - I never leave home to travel without 'em)
