In an emergency braking situation, most of the weight of the vehicle is carried by the FRONT tires. The Vanagons weigh from 3600 to 4100 pounds unladen. Add in passengers, fuel and cargo and you can approach 5000 pounds. Now, in an emergency throw a significant portion of that on to your front two tires. Swerve in that emergency and throw a high proportion on to one tire.

>THAT< is when you want your tire to be able to survive. If it blows out at that point, you have a good chance of rolling.

But, hey. Do what you want. Think of it as evolution in action.

however, as far as a load capacity, our vans don't weigh 5 tons, and will never see that amount of weight, unless you are towing a huge boat, which we all is just plain silly.
