When we were "winter camping" (traveling from Texas to Michigan and backin January and back to visit my family (I still don't know what we were thinking)), we had good luck with layered clothes, zipped together sleeping bags, a down comforter inside the sleeping bags, and a dog at our feet.

Our Australian Cattle dog, Angel, was a great foot warmer! Part way through the night, she'd get too warm and burrow back up between us to cool off, and then head back down to our feet where it was warm when her nose got too cold.
