just found out two more mid year changes...

sometime in the middle of '88 the redesigned hatch was introduced w/ the vw
symbol recessed in the middle of the rear hatch..    early '88 didnt have the
central symbol, late 88 did like all 89-91..

also sometime during the middle of '89 vw changed the color of the jumpseat
brackets and frames from grey to black.

i have 2 jumpseats from two different '89 wolfsburg editions.. both having
the diagonally striped fabric (bluestar/whitestar).  one frame is grey, the
other is black.   strange stuff..
