You should try driving around in my daughter's 87 Vanagon (AKA The Mystery Machine) and see what happens. Around home they (the police) are used to it, but whenever it goes out of state it pulls all sorts of attention. Sometimes good, and sometimes not. I got on a wrong road in Chattanooga, TN and attempted a "U" turn and was pulled over before I even got straighten out! Interestingly enough once we got to the aquarium more attention (and photographs) was on the Mystery Machine than on the displays in front of the aquarium. Talk about high fives and camera photos while going down the road! I had a 65 Mustang GT350 fastback that was totally restored that didn't get as much attention.

Probably not. Vanagon trumps appearance. We got pulled over in Apple Valley CA when my wife made a right turn and the right rear wheel ran over the white line along the right edge of the road. In essence the right rear wheel went into the bike lane for a moment (though there were no bikes anywhere). The officer was a bit surprised to find that the driver was a woman his mother's age. Suddenly everything was very polite and we were soon on our way.
