Thanks to everyone who responded to my calls for help for a friend with problems near Wichita. He wound up getting one exhaust bolt tight enough to drive back to Wichita, made it to a hardware store just before closing, purchased an assortment of metric bolts, found two that fit, and he was back on the road. As it turns out, he recently replaced the head gaskets on the 2.1. Of course, the head has studs on one end and bolts on the other. When he replaced the bolts, he just ASSumed that the first 8 x 1.25 that he found was the correct one. Last night he learned that some are shorter than others. He installed the longer ones with thread locker, so he's back on the road (let's hope it's a permanent fix). Warren L. 88 Westy "Billy Bones" |
