My 90 has been driving and behaving perfectly all spring and summer, requiring little more than an oil change. Yesterday I decided I'd better pull the lid and look around, just 'cause, and when I did I notice three things concerning the power steering. The fluid level was a bit low. There is some kind of two- pronged electrical sensor atop the pump, and fluid actually seems to be seeping (less than a full fledged leak) out of the top of it, where the connectors are (it appears so, though I haven't cleaned it up to test it) with a bit of grime in the drip area beneath it. And there is seepage where the low-pressure hose from the pump meets the metal line it attaches to down the side of the engine compartment, and a good bit of grime . Anyone ever just cut the hose and reclamped it? Replaced it? Is this a FLAPS hose or VW part hose? And finally, what's the consensus on the best PS fluid for the Vanagon, while I'm in there? Thanks, Jim |
