Yea it's true --- a 'gift' under $50 value sails through customs with no hassle and no tax. I just bought a $100 item on ebay. I knew the seller was sending it USPS (or I wouldn't have bid) and it made me chuckle when the item arrived with the customs declaration saying "gift" and a value of $20 --- clearly this particular seller does a lot of Canadian business :-)
