Yes, I added a couple of 250 pound gas springs, mounted at my hinge and on the roof rack bracket (added by a previous owner). Not the best leverage point, but it works for me so that I can add a couple of hundred pounds of stuff up top and still get the poptop open and closed safely by myself.
