How are you defining a deep cycle battery so that the GC-2 does not qualify?

Batteries in parallel will retain the same voltage (in this case 6
volts). With batteries in series, the voltage is additive.
That's why a flashlight with two 1 1/2 volt D cells (they're in series)
requires a 3 volt bulb and a flashlight with four such D cells requires
a 6 volt bulb.
Golf cart batteries aren't true deep cycle batteries but have design
characteristics that are in between those of deep cycles and starting
batteries.
