No, but is sure is an efficient accelerant. If a car around here is in good shape (meaning no missing paint or undercoating) you just don't see rust.

I used to see runs on the british cars I messed with, with 80 percent of it on the passenger's side. I wondered about that for years before figuring out that the passenger side ran in the gutter/puddle side of the road, unlike the driver's side that runs on the crown of the road, and that poor design and materials allowed water to stay where it shouldn't.

But that's not been a problem on my VWs.
