I know several Vans without them and there seem to be no real down side to not having them. I have one on and one off and the rotors seem the same.

hey all
i am in the process of replacing a bunch of parts on the front end of my 84 westy(shocks, rotors, bearings, varied bushings, hoses, calipers...).  both sides combined,  i have about 9 molecules worth of splash plates. 

the question--how important are they?  are they worth replacing?  who has them?
