Was it an issue with installing just the engine onto the already in place transmission? I found the boom-type engine lift worked great when putting in the engine and transmission as a single pre-assembled unit. Lifted the engine up halfway, crawled under and shoved the transmission into position on its mount, and boomed the engine right on up. With everything all assembled, though, it nearly balances at the flywheel-side lift point, making it a snap to align the transmission mount and shove its bolt through, giving the whole thing an aligned hinge point against which to lift the engine crossbeam in place.
