Hello Folks,

I had my 88 Doublecab (Doka) at my friend's shop today for the the manual transmission to auto swap. Figured it would be easier to take the assembled engine and auto trans from the donor van and stick that in the Doka relatively intact. You may recall a thread on this a couple of months ago. I did not take the wiring from the van under advise from the List that the neutral safety switch wiring can be fabricated separately. Anyway, all is good, engine starts, until you shift. We have not done anything with the safety switch yet so the Doka starts in PARK, NEUTRAL, and any other gear. That's expected due to lack of safety switch. However, the engine loses electrical power then dies after you shift into gear.

So assuming we make up the wires from the safety switch on the shift console, where would it connect in the back? There is a connector which normally would go to the back-up switch light switch on the manual. That's tied up out of the way for now. Is that a good spot to connect the two wires from the neutral safety switch?

Dennis H.? TK? Anyone?

Thanks in advance,

-- BenT

ps: the accelerator cable also needs to be changed to one from an auto. we did now discuss this in the last thread.
