This is thre kind of outside the box thinking that VW used to do so well before they went mainstream and stopped making vans.

You had to pop the hood anyway to fill the gas tank, so it was easy to add some air at the same time. Back in those days both tasks, plus wiping your windshield and checking your oil, would be done by a gas station employee.

Now I know you're old enough to remember those! :-)
