Subject: NVC: Acura overheating question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

Sorry for a post related only in that it's automotive, but somebody here probably knows (Mark in AK?):

Monday my wife was in line at a drive-up restaurant in her 90 Acura Legend when it began spewing from under the hood. It was towed home.

Today (saturday) is the first chance I've had to look at it.

Replaced split oil cooler coolant hose. Started the car and watched temp while it idled. Engine seems OK. Temp stayed low, then quickly spiked (uncharacteristic) but stopped midway. I saw another small hose near the intake manifold had a pinhole leak. Fixed that, but coolant was everywhere under the hood.

Started the car and it idled cool, no needle movement. Drove it around the block, saw steam and coasted back into the driveway. Still no needle movement, so the water under the hood had disabled the sender, maybe? Or maybe I jiggled something looks replacing hose #2? Stuck thermostat?

Anyway, it was pumping hot coolant into the overflow tank like it was a steam engine. Don't think any hoses popped this time but not sure.

This seems like a dead water pump (no symptoms, though) or a stuck thermostat.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jim
